Written from the island
I live in St Julian's, rent my flat here, hold a Maltese residence card and run a Maltese company. The guides describe procedures I went through, not ones I read about.

Rents, tax rates and fees link to the official page or the market report they come from. When a figure cannot be verified, the guide says so instead of guessing.

Who is behind it
Hi, I'm Vincent Ventalon, a French software engineer. I live in St Julian's and I run my Maltese limited company from the island. MaltaExpat is where I write down what I learn about living here.
I first registered as an EU national on self-sufficiency grounds, then had to re-apply on employment grounds once my own Maltese company employed me. Opening a personal bank account took seven to eight months. That is why the guides are blunt about Maltese paperwork.
Everything on this site comes from living the subject. I pay rent in Malta, I file the paperwork with the local authorities, and in summer I swim at Exiles more often than I should admit.
